Summertime is a great time for adventuring! We love taking weekends (or weekdays) away to spend some quality time together visiting places that inspire us and make us happy. While on our way to Detroit, we saw this truck on the freeway and thought it was pretty funny:
Loren had to make a stop at Astro Coffee where we had delicious breakfast. One of our favorite places to peruse is the Detroit Institute of Arts. The museum is located in the heart of Downtown Detroit on Woodward Ave. and is across from the Detroit Science center. The DIA was hosting an exhibit for Diego Rivera & Frida Kahlo that Mary Beth was super syched to see and share with you but unfortunately pictures were not allowed in this special exhibit. BUT, if you ever get a chance to see it, it was fascinating and interesting learning more about Detroit’s history as well!
We wanted to share with you some highlights from the museum (that we could photograph) so here is our favorite works:
Rivera Court
We saw old Hebrew books and sharks
Favorite VanGoghs
Looks like Ludacris on a horse, there was a similar painting at the Toledo Art Museum that was pink, you may have seen it…
Lots of great contemporary artwork as well! We hope the next time you take a trip to Detroit you visit this historical place. Detroit seems to be making a comeback slowly & visitors who donate to the museums are helping bring funds for continued education in the arts:)
