Loren + Mary Beth: CHICAGO

Well, out of all the places we’ve been together, from the west coast to the east and most things inbetween, Chicago is one place we’ve never been. We recently spent a few days in the Windy City, and let me tell you, title well earned!

We started off meeting up with one of our lovely engaged couples for lunch, which I can’t recall the name of the restaurant they took us to, but it was great! They talked us into ordering some french fries smothered in gravy, shaved beef, onions, and cheese curds… for an artery clogging appetizer…then a meal?

After lunch, our friends dropped us off downtown on Michigan Ave. We checked out the Walgreens bathroom first, then on to all the other touristy things. We ate at Sprinkles Cupcakes since it had a line out the door, we figured it had to be good! It was. But while we were waiting for tasty treats, we saw actor Oliver Platt, but he escaped into a clothing store before we could catch him. Towards the end of the night, we headed to the original Gino’s East for some authentic Chicago deep dish pizza. We weren’t hungry when we ordered it, but after a 90min bake time, we worked up an appetite. By this time we were beat, so we caught a cab and headed home.

The next morning was overcast and somewhat foggy. We checked out the Iguana Cafe which was right across the street from us. Great place for breakfast! We caught an Uber to Millennium Park to check out the bean (cloud gate) and see more of the city, but only to make a stop at a CVS bathroom first! The park was really cool! Obviously the Cloud Gate was crowded, but it was still a sight to see. We walked over to Intelligentsia Coffee for an afternoon cappuccino which was amazing. Definitely my(Loren) kind of place!

Afterwards, we caught a taxi to our friends house for an afternoon/evening of laughs and good times… oh, and we took their engagement photos. You can check out their post below! For dinner we all went to Chinatown and had a feast, which none of us could finish, but great none the less.

The next day we were heading back home to Toledo. But first we met with this cat breeder to pick up a new addition to our family! We drove home with a Highlander kitten named Mugatu!

All in all, Chicago was a great place to visit. It’s full of fun things to do, great people, and good food. We can’t wait to go back and explore the rest of the city!
