When we met with Katelynn & David and heard their love story, we knew their wedding day was going to be so amazing! A few months later when we photographed their engagements, it seemed as though the butterflies and giddiness had not faded. But these two have been friends for years and after a few of them, realized that they couldn’t deny that they had grown to love one another and found their soul mate in their best friend.
Before the ceremony, Katelynn’s mother and sister presented her with her grandmother’s rosary to hold with her bouquet, giving her something old and blue. Dreamcatchers were handmade by Katelynn and hung from the altar and around Oak Openings Lodge, bringing her woodland/boho theme to life. Dreamcatchers were created by the native american Ojibwe tribe by storytellers who talked of a Asibikaashi or “Spider Woman” who comes and cares for all of the children. Eventually the stories spread across the lands and the “Spider Woman” couldn’t reach all of the children. The dream catcher was made and woven to filter any bad dreams from entering the mind and only allow good ones to come through. These were the perfect decorations for the start of a new life together, new dreams being created and shared.
Both David and Katelynn shared gifts for each other and their handwritten and heartfelt vows were so touching. Katelynn promised to limit her obsession with Yankee candles (we have put it in writing now!) and David pledged that he would always love her and Leland, her super smart little boy. A Handfasting ceremony took place where David and Katelynn’s hands were bound together representing their binding union. The sweet couple also remembered their grandparents who couldn’t be there in a loving tribute during the reception. In fact, they honored their grandparents with getting married on their anniversary! While dancing together until late in the evening, Katelynn and David were softly singing their favorite love song to each other before their sparkler sendoff – perfect for a 4th of July wedding weekend!
