Where do we start...
Before we get a head of ourselves. We're going to go over... What are these photos for? What should I wear? Why are they important? All good questions and we'll break down each one. First, flip through the gallery below. Make a mental note of the things you like. The setting, the vibe, the colors.
Photos are our memories preserved in a physical object. We look back on them with nostalgia and care. It's a celebration of the end of an era, the beginning of the next chapter. Not long after this, you'll no longer be a fiance. You'll be a spouse. It may seem trivial, but we can attest that after a decade and a half of marriage, it's difficult to remember life before we were married. And personally, we don't have many photos to look back on. The ones we do are terrible quality selfies from a 2010 cell phone. These photos deserve more than a social media post. Print them! Hang them in your home. Display a few at your wedding.
Take some time to think about this. Where is your place? Where do you feel comfortable? What's important to you? Let's look at the options.
Your home is a great option for some. It's a place where you can truly be yourself. We love documenting couples in their space because there's no other place that says you then your home.
"But my house isn't perfect"... No one's is! That's ok. If your house is a place you love being, then this might be a good option. Especially if there's cats!
Who want's to stand there and smile for the camera for two hours? No one! So let's not do that.
Let's go do something! Let's go grab a drink at your favorite spot. Go to the fair. Check out that book store that you love. What do you guys love doing as a couple? This is the BEST way for us to capture you and your love.
We love new places. It get's our creative juices flowing. Some of our favorite engagement sessions are from just exploring a new place. Where is the interesting light, or some cool coffee shop that we've never been to? There will absolutely be some exploring on your engagement session.
Toledo has some incredible metroparks. These are great options for exploring a natural setting. Plus the benefit of less "lookie loo's". But there's a down side to the parks in our opinion. Bugs. If that's not your jam, let's stick to the city or a park that's in a more urban area.
The city is our jam! We love exploring new areas and finding interesting light and shadows. There's usually places to dip into for a drink or shelter. Architecture, shapes, colors and murals. If this speaks to you, this is where we should go.
Do you love to travel? Have a trip planned? Can we come? We've traveled for many engagement sessions. From tropical getaways to the city you fell in love. Where you went to college to hometowns. This a great way to further document your story.
Don't stress too much about it. We want you to feel comfortable and look like yourselves and we're here to help! There are two main ways we can go for your engagement photos. And we actually recommend doing both. But the big takeaway here is, if you feel good, you'll look good.
This is where we start. What's your favorite? If there were one outfit that defines you, what is it? Ok, besides comfy sweatpants! What would you wear to go to lunch with an old friend? Think casual. Is it a T-shirt and jeans, a flowing summer dress, or somewhere in-between?
Let's start your engagement photos doing something you love. Let's grab a drink at your favorite spot, go for walk downtown, or hang out at your place.... So dress accordingly. Let's start casual and then we'll move into the next step.
After some casual stuff, let's dress it up a bit! Think about what you'd wear on a date night to a nice restaurant (then go to one after your photos!).
A flowing dress and a suit always make a statement. Don't be shy, we're celebrating you, and you deserve to look great!
Complementing wardrobes are a must. If one of you is going to dress up, the other should too. For the guys that don't have a suit that you love... A sport coat is an easy way to dress up most outfits. Or a nice (pressed) button-up shirt. Layers are a great way to make a versatile outfit.
Again, don't stress about this! The most important thing to us is that you guys have fun during your session! Because we know, that's where the good photos come from. Seriously, if dressing up stresses you out, skip it! Let's stick with casual.
You've got this! And when we see you, we'll be like Steve.....
We love pets! And we are always more than happy to snap some photos with your cat, dog or pet rock! Here's what we recommend to get the best possible results:
Bring your pet to your session along with a friend or family member. We'll photograph you and your beloved fur children first thing. Then your friend or family member can take your furry companion home while we continue on with your session. And make sure to bring their favorite treat to help us bribe them into the perfect christmas card photo!
Don't be in a glass case of emotion Ron! Weather is unpredictable. If by chance we run into a rainy day, we will recommend rescheduling. We know what you want, and we would hate to disappoint you by photographing somewhere that you weren't expecting. Now of course if it decides to drizzle a bit during our session, there are usually some places we can duck into for a bit. At the end of the day, don't sweat it. We're going to have fun no matter what!
